Vroman’s Bookstore will host a compelling Local Author Day on Sunday featuring three distinctive authors presenting works that explore travel, grief, and societal issues.

The August 24 event, taking place at the historic 695 E. Colorado Blvd location in Pasadena, will showcase two young readers’ programs and an adult author session that promise to engage and enlighten audiences.

“I want to be responsible for exposing children to the beauty of traveling and how life changing it can be,” says Shvona Chung, author of “Hop Around,” reflecting the event’s spirit of broadening perspectives.

Her children’s book celebrates multicultural experiences, presenting half-bunny, half-special animal friends who take readers on a global journey.

The Young Readers Edition Program will feature two distinctive works.

Chung’s “Hop Around” offers a multicultural travel narrative that aims to represent children from diverse backgrounds.

Alongside her, Sarah McLean will present “Leah Is A Dragonfly Now: A True Story of Grief and Everlasting Friendship,” a book based on an award-winning animated short film exploring themes of transformation and loss.

In the Adult Author Program, Jonathan Grimm will delve into critical economic challenges with his book “The Future Poor: How Families and Communities Can Join Together to Survive the Looming Retirement Crisis.” As a Licensed Financial Advisor, Grimm highlights a stark economic reality: “My book is all about the trajectory of where we’re headed. Most of us are going to be poor in the future.”

The event is part of Vroman’s ongoing commitment to community engagement.

As CEO Julia Cowlishaw noted, “Our longevity is because of the people. Our dedicated customers and our dedicated team of employees are the reason we are still here.”

The bookstore, founded in 1894, continues its tradition of hosting over 400 free community events annually.
