Sun Yingsha defeated Wang Manyu in the all-China women’s final at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Europe Smash in Sweden on Sunday.

The women’s competition had set up a clash between the rankings’ top two players at the Malmo Arena, as Sun, the world No 1, took on second-ranked Wang.

Both had enjoyed comfortable semi-final victories, in each case an all-Chinese affair. Sun saw off Chen Yi 4-1, while Wang cruised past Shi Xunyao 4-0.

The final, though, was a much closer matter, as Wang found herself 2-0 down before drawing level by claiming the next two.

Sun, however, turned the tide again, recovering to take the fifth and sixth games and emerge a 4-2 winner as it ended 11-9, 11-9, 5-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-5.

Wang and Sun had teamed up on Saturday to win the women’s doubles crown by edging past Japan’s Miwa Harimoto and Satsuki Odo 3-2.
