Strictly Come Dancing is gearing up for a “switch-up week”, where celebrities will trade their regular dance partners for another professional. This one-off episode is part of the BBC series, set to begin next month.
The concept was first introduced by Ireland’s Dancing With The Stars in 2019, following its success in America. Fans were able to vote for switch-ups by visiting the website and choosing a celebrity to pair with a professional dancer of their preference.
Strictly pro-dancer Kai Widdrington, 30, experienced this swap firsthand while participating in the Irish version in 2020, where he was paired with TV presenter Brian Dowling, 47, for a week.

An insider told The Sun on Sunday: “A switch-up week is a great way to spice up Strictly Come Dancing. Fans will be able to vote for which celebrity they want to see dance with their favourite professional dancer.”
However, they also warned: “It could also ruffle some feathers as the celebrities may have amazing chemistry with their current partner. Even just switching for one week could disrupt their flow.”
The dance series will commence on Saturday, September 20, with the usual pre-recorded launch show as celebs are paired with pros.
