St Helens loanee Tee Ritson has been ruled out for the remainder of the year after undergoing surgery earlier this week.
Ritson has spent the campaign with Championship side Barrow Raiders after finding himself down the pecking order at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
However, his season has come to a premature end after picking up an ankle injury earlier this month. Ritson underwent surgery on Friday, the Raiders have confirmed, with the winger requiring an ankle reconstruction.
A full timeline for his recovery hasn’t been provided but it’s fair to assume that injury could eat into his pre-season, too. Where Ritson will be plying his trade next season remains to be seen, though.
The two-year deal he signed with St Helens in October 2023 comes to an end at the end of the current campaign and given the options Saints have in the outside backs, it seems unlikely they will move to retain him.
Ritson joined St Helens on a season-long loan from Barrow back in 2023 before joining permanently. However, he made just 10 appearances for the club last season and given he has spent this year back in Cumbria, he hasn’t featured for the Saints at all this year.
He has made a total of 26 appearances for the Red Vee, with three tries coming along the way.
The winger has featured for the Raiders on 17 occasions this season, touching down for 13 tries and having spent four seasons as a Barrow player prior to joining the Saints, his record for the club now stands at 81 tries in 89 outings.
Ritson started his career at Workington Town, but counts Newcastle Thunder as a former club too.
