Several major roads will be shut or partly shut this week from Monday August 25, due to planned roadworks. We’ve made a quick guide to all the road closures and disruption you should be aware of for the coming week.

The closures will be at junctions the length of the motorway in Wales from around the Newport area to Carmarthenshire. Most will be at night although there will be some disruption in the day.

The following closures will be in place on the M4 with diversions in place:

The slip road will be closed for roadworks on the M4 eastbound at junction 42 in Neath Port Talbot from 8pm to 6am until every day until and including August 27. This junction connects the M4 motorway with the A4138 road.

The M4 eastbound will also be closed for resurfacing work between junction 26 at Malpas and junction 24 at Coldra between 8pm and 6am from Tuesday August 26 through to and including Saturday August 30. Diversions will be in place

The same stretch of the road but in the other direction westbound between junction 24 Coldra and junction 26 Malpas will be closed for roadworks Saturday August 30 to and including September 9 from 8pm to 6am. diversions will be in place.

Electrical work and surveys will also see westbound M4 traffic disrupted at junction 40 Taibach from Tuesday August 26 through to and including Thursday August 28 from 8pm to 6am. Diversions will be in place.

The entry slip road westbound to the M4 will be shut at junction 42 Earlswood for construction and roadworks work between Wednesday August 27 and September 3 from 8pm to 6am. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here

Other disruption

There’s a temporary gross weight limit of 7.5 tonnes due to bridge maintenance work on M48 Severn Bridge in both directions starting on Wednesday August 27 and running until May 2026. The closure affects traffic inn both directions between junction two A466 Wye Valley Link Road (Chepstow) and junction 1 A403 (Aust) affecting lorries only.

Bridgend

In Bridgend two lanes of the M4 will be closed between junction 37 at A4229 Pyle/Porthcawl and junction 48 A48 at Margam. These works are set to cause closures until November.

In Bridgend there’s temporary traffic lights due to gasworks on the A473 Park Street at St Leonards until October 3 .

Temporary lights will also be in place on the A48 Pyle Road at B4281 Ffald Road (Pyle Cross) and drivers are warned to expect delays here until September 5.

Powys

In Powys the A4215 at Libanus will be shut in both directions between the A470 and Forest Lodge turn off until August 29.

In Llanstephan, Powys, there’s temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A470 at Llanstephan turn off until October 1. Drivers are told to expect delays.

Gwynedd

Temporary lights will be in place on the A5 Menai Bridge in Gwynedd due to roadworks between the Antelope Roundabout A487 Treborth Road and Telford Road A545. These works are scheduled to continue to next summer.

Carmarthenshire

In Llanelli, Carmarthenshire there’s temporary traffic lights on the A484 Sandy Road Maesycoed until August 29.

The A40 in Johnstown, Carmarthenshire will be shut in both directions from thr B$312 to A4066 St Clears between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Mondays to Fridays until November.

Cardiff

A lane will be shut on the A4161 Cowbridge Road East at Mayfield Avenue for roadworks until Sunday August 31.
