Trial: French researcher Laurent Vinatier, who is already serving a three-year jail sentence in Russia, goes on trial in Moscow for espionage. He has been held in former KGB prison Lefortovo, where political opponents were and still are imprisoned, since April.

Economy: France’s August inflation estimate and GDP results for the first quarter of the year will be announced.
Travel: Roads watchdog Bison Futé predicts one final weekend of heavy traffic on France’s roads as the last of the summer holidaymakers head home.
Rugby: Men’s domestic professional rugby kicks off in France, with the second-tier ProD2 starting on Friday evening. The Top 14 returns next weekend.

Seine swim: It may also be the last chance to swim in the Seine in Paris this year, as the special areas set up earlier this summer are scheduled to close on August 31st – but authorities in the capital are considering extending the season into September.
