A well-known brunch spot in East Bristol has taken to Instagram to share an update with its customers after a ‘quiet’ summer period.
The Crafty Egg, which has several branches across the city, has made the frank admission to its customers after experiencing a fall in trade at its St George’s location.
The Crafty Egg opened a new venue at the St George’s Hall pub on Church Road last year, after the pub closed in 2021.
The café, which also has venues in Fishponds and Stokes Croft, took to Instagram to urge customers to continue supporting their independent business.
Posting to social media, The Crafty Egg said: “An honest update from us on Church Road… Since the sun showed up – and with the stunning new Lounges opening a couple of weeks ago – things have been very quiet here.
“We’re proud to be part of this community, but the truth is: without your support, it won’t be sustainable for much longer.
“We’ve been using the quieter spell to build a brand new coffee bar at the front of the building, which will be ready next week.
“This means better service, a more welcoming atmosphere, and a much easier spot to nip in for a quick takeaway. We’re really looking forward to the summer lull in trade coming to an end – and honestly, it can’t come quickly enough.
“We’re not a big chain with bottomless pockets. Every coffee, every brunch, every pint sold here goes straight back into Bristol – paying our team, keeping our doors open, and fuelling the neighbourhood.
“So if you’ve been meaning to pop in, now’s the time. To give you a little nudge, we’ll be running some September promotions so keep an eye on our socials.”
It also announced it will be collaborating with other local businesses, offering customers a discount if they have visited other independent spots.
It said: “Now we’re starting with 10 per cent off per customer, when you show us a receipt from a purchase made in the last 7 days from one of our fantastic neighbours @borninbristol @fizzy.collective, @thebristolloaf @priorshopbristol @thesmallcitybookshop and the Cake Shop Church Road. This offer runs until the end of August.
“Thank you for supporting your independents – it means everything.”
People have taken to the comments to show their support for the brunch spot, reassuring The Crafty Egg that they will be popping in very soon.
One person said: “Wow! What a neat way to diversify. It’s hard out there atm, goodnight you and good on the local community for helping and supporting”
Another person said: “Good luck folks! We think you’re brilliant!”.
Someone else said: “Keep on shouting that you need the support I think some people don’t realise.”
Someone else said: “Love the coffee bar idea”. and another person said: “The best place for brunch & such good value for money. Kimchi braised mushrooms & sourdough”.
