Officers were on patrol on Edgar Drive in Renfrew at around 3.25am on Sunday when they came across a white BMW 3 Series on fire outside of a property.
The blaze was then extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Police confirmed the fire is being treated as ‘deliberate’.

Detective Constable Jack McElwee said: “The fire is being treated as wilful and our enquiries are ongoing.
“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the fire and who hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch.
“I would also ask anyone with dash cam or private CCTV footage, which could assist to contact us.”
