Manchester United are two games into the 2025/26 season and concerns are already surfacing over the quality of Ruben Amorim’s squad of players.

Despite spending over £200million on a new-look frontline, United have managed just one point from their first two games with just one goal scored. The 1-1 draw at Fulham left more questions than answers in another frustrating fixture.

Fortunately, there is one week left of the transfer window and there is still time for United to further strengthen. However, with a trip to Grimsby Town waiting for them this week, Amorim’s attention will be the action on the pitch.

That doesn’t mean there won’t be any late business. So with that in mind, let’s take a look at the latest transfer news in the last 24 hours…

United ‘reject’ Garnacho proposal

Alejandro Garnacho has been nowhere to be seen in the first weeks of the season with it expected that he will leave the club. Chelsea are said to be the favourites to sign the winger.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United rejected the chance to sign Tyrique George with Garnacho going the other way. The 19-year-old scored three goals and provided five assists last term but is one of the players who faces an uncertain future at the club.

However, with Amorim’s system not utilising wingers, a move for George was turned down.

MEN Sport says: “If United played a 4-2-3-1 formation and had wingers playing off a striker, George for Garnacho would make sense. However, they don’t need wingers and despite the potential in the teenager, it would be one that makes no sense.

“Garnacho’s exit will class as pure profit with him being an academy graduate so getting the best financial deal is the priority before the window closes.”

McTominay plays role in move

Former United midfielder Scott McTominay has reportedly been in touch with Rasmus Hojlund in an attempt to convince him to join Napoli this summer.

Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport have claimed that the Ballon d’Or nominee is doing all he can to get Hojlund to move to the Serie A champions. Napoli are said to be one of the teams considering a late move for the striker.

AC Milan, who now look unlikely to sign Victor Boniface, are also keen.

MEN Sport says: “Hojlund was nowhere to be seen at Fulham yesterday and it’s unlikely that he will be used against Grimsby in the cup. Like Garnacho, a move out of Old Trafford seems guaranteed but where he goes is so unlikely.

“Napoli would be perfect for him with the positive aura around the club at the moment. With no Romelu Lukaku injured, Antonio Conte needs a goalscorer and Hojlund could fill the slot.”
