It always feels like bank holidays can be a bit of a washout, but this August bank holiday has well and truly bucked that trend.

Today Greater Manchester is basking in glorious sunshine with temperatures creeping close to 30C – not a bad way to round off the bank holiday weekend.

You might be making the most of the weather with a family trip to the seaside or with a barbecue with friends. But if you’re stuck for something to do and want to enjoy the sunshine then we’ve got you covered.

South Manchester is packed full of parks, gardens and riverside walks which are all lovely when the sun’s out. Yet there’s one place in particular which never disappoints.

Many will be familiar with the botanical gardens which feature a rockery, pond, tiny waterfalls and an array of plants and trees.

Outside of the botanical gardens are open fields, a rose garden, grassy areas and a walking route which takes you through the woods, eventually leading to the River Mersey.

This area in particular takes you across boardwalks over pockets of marshland, along tree-covered trails and past small ponds.

You can round off your walk with a visit to The Alpine Tea Room at the entrance to Fletcher Moss Park, which is open from 8am to 4pm.

It serves up light meals, ice cream, soft drinks and even cocktails, with lots of outdoor seating available.

Or for those seeking a pub garden, head to nearby Ye Olde Cock Inn and The Didsbury on Stenner Lane.
