The latest series of Married At First Sight Australia has seen producers scramble to keep things under control, and that’s not just at the wild dinner parties. While the hit reality TV show has racked up a reputation for heated clashes and drunken antics, things have reached boiling point.

According to reports, filming for the upcoming series has descended into chaos as for the first time ever there will be weekly drug testing. Any star on the show who fails the test while filming will be booted off the experiment.

The strict clampdown comes after reports the cast went rogue during a weekend earlier this month. Several participants are said to have broken curfew, which was imposed when stars vanished mid-shoot.

“Production has every reason to be p**sed off,” a source told the Daily Mail. “The night in question completely blew up – cast members disappeared, fights broke out and one couple is already in turmoil.”

Some of the cast have been branded “disrespectful” and “selfish” after they were ordered back to their apartments by 10pm on weeknights and 11pm on weekends.

However, due to their rule breaks bosses have reportedly tightened their restrictions to 8pm on Fridays and Sundays and 9pm on Saturdays.

A leaked email from the production team is said to have expressed their “utter disappointment” in the cast’s disregard for the crew. They reportedly warned key cards would be deactivated after curfew.

“The complete disrespect to this production’s guidelines, as well as to my crew and their weekend, means these changes will be enforced,” the note read.

Last month, it was reported bosses were struggling to find suitable singles to appear in the show. TV insiders claimed that several spots remained empty on MAFS Australia, with some candidates even pulling out at the last minute.

“They’re still scrambling for both brides and grooms,” a source told Daily Mail Australia. “Honestly, they’re desperate. There’s a real sense of panic among the producers who know they have to deliver a standout cast to keep viewers hooked after this year’s season was so controversial.”

Channel Nine’s new vetting process was said to have added to producers’ casting problems as they are “not messing around” when it comes to thorough background checks this time around.

A source said: “Channel Nine isn’t messing around when it comes to background checks this year. They don’t want anyone with a criminal record – not even someone who’s faced court and been found not guilty.

“It’s about protecting the brand at all costs. But they’re not playing it safe. They still want drama, chaos, headlines – they just don’t want to give critics any more ammunition.”

The Mirror has contacted Channel Nine for comment.
