Hull KR have received a big boost, with Sauaso Sue’s injury not as bad as first feared. The prop, a key component of Rovers’ middle unit, was helped from the field during Friday’s defeat to Leeds Rhinos and it was initially thought that he had suffered a serious setback.

Willie Peters admitted after the game that the Robins feared the worst on the injury front and that scans would determine the severity of the injury, though they were bracing for a long-term layoff.

However, those scans have delivered unexpected but much-welcome news to Rovers. They have revealed that while Sue has suffered an injury, it is not a serious one, and his time off the field will only be short. Sue is expected to miss two to four weeks of action, meaning Rovers are hopeful he will be available for selection by the time the play-offs come around.

In the short term, it does leave Rovers light in the middle. They remain without Jared Waerea-Hargreaves this week as he completes a two-match suspension, and with Jai Whitbread also being forced from the field in the defeat to Leeds last week, Rovers are now facing the prospect of being without three of their main pros for the game with St Helens this weekend.

That said, the news regarding Sue is most welcome, given how serious the injury first appeared. For now, they still have the likes of Dean Hadley, Sam Luckley, Jack Brown, and Eribe Doro available to be selected for Friday’s game against Paul Wellens’ side.
