A star took a brutal swipe at Birmingham this evening, in front of a crowd of thousands.

Professional wrestler Kofi Kingston ripped into the city while performing at WWE Monday Night Raw at bp pulse LIVE in the city on Monday, August 25.

He said, to a roaring audience: “We don’t want to be here. You all have to wake up here in this dirty pi**stain excuse of a city you call Birmingham.”

His co-star Xavier Woods added: “You idiots sound like sleep apnea when you speak.”

Our BirminghamLive reporter Robson McCallister was at the show tonight and said it was a ‘foul’ and ‘X-rated’ comment.

It wasn’t the first controversial thing mentioned that evening. Becky Lynch, also a wrestler, came under fire when she made a poorly timed ‘joke’ about the death of Birmingham legend Ozzy Osbourne.

“Ozzy Osbourne has the good sense to move to LA, a proper city. If I lived in Birmingham, I’d die too.”

She then “scurried” from the ring, leaving fans “gasping”.

One fan wrote on X: “@WWE whoever wrote @beckywwelynchx script should be ashamed of themselves.

“The total disrespect shown to Birmingham and cheap shot at the memory of OZZY was disgusting and you should NEVER put politics in sport. What a disgusting lot you are.”

WWE Monday Night RAW was streamed live on Netflix tonight – the first time from Birmingham in 12 years. The stream ended just after 10.30pm.
