Five people have been taken to two hospitals in Northern Ireland following a serious crash close to Castledawson.

Emergency services including the PSNI and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended the collision close to the Glenshane Road and Tamnadeese Road area this morning.

NIAS confirmed they sent six ambulances to the incident. The Air Ambulance service also attended.

A NIAS spokesperson said: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 06:45 on Tuesday 26th August, following reports of an RTC in the Tamnadeese Road area, Castledawson.

“NIAS dispatched six emergency ambulances to the scene.

“The charity Air Ambulance with HEMS on board were also tasked to the incident.

“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, three people were taken to Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast by ambulance. Another two people were taken to Antrim Area Hospital by ambulance.”

A PSNI spokesperson added: “Motorists are advised that the northbound lane of the Glenshane Road, Castledawson, is closed to traffic from the Castledawson roundabout, due to a serious road traffic collision.

“Please seek an alternative route for your journey, and plan for delays in the area.”
