Love it or hate it, TikTok is chock-full of book reviews for anyone seeking them out. This corner of the Internet, lovingly named ‘BookTok’, has launched, nurtured and maintained several author careers in the last five years – and romance happens to be a specialty.

While we get that romance isn’t for everyone, this list is for those who love love. A cheesy plot, enemies-to-lovers, slightly cringe coincidences – we’re here for it all.

Without further ado, these are the romance novels that are TikTok-approved.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This might be the original TikTok-approved romance, and for good reason. Reclusive former Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo reaches out to magazine writer Monique Grant, promising to tell her entire life story for publication upon her death. Following her iconic Hollywood career that kicked off in the 1950s, and the seven marriages she had along the way, this book is a drama-filled page-turner that’ll stay with you long after you read it.

One Golden Summer by Carley Fortune

Perfect for a cold, rainy weekend when you don’t have much else on, this cosy romance is a delightful read. Heroine Alice Everly takes her elderly grandmother to a lakeside holiday house to recover from a hip replacement. Taking a much-needed break from her busy city life and her very recent breakup, Alice also finds herself falling for the charming guy next door.

“A fantastic love story that had me imagining I was at the lake house the whole way through. Beautifully written and so descriptive that it transported me into the book,” one reviewer wrote.

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

Ali Hazelwood is prolific when it comes to writing, having published seven contemporary romances and some paranormal novels, too. Originally a fanfiction, The Love Hypothesis has been adapted into a love story between a PhD candidate and her ‘young hotshot’ professor, who fall unwittingly in love while pretending to be in a relationship.

“This was a really great, quick, easy, feel-good read. The story was compelling but not overly complicated to follow. I loved that it was something unusual…”, one reviewer shared.

The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston

Playing with the idea that we might meet the right person at the wrong time, The Seven Year Slip has heroine Clementine stumble across the man of her dreams – living seven years in the past. Described as ‘beautiful’, ‘poignant’ and an ‘unexpected delight’, it seems from reviews alone that these star-crossed characters might not be as doomed as you’d think.

Book Lovers by Emily Henry

Two career-driven rivals from the New York City publishing scene, Nora Stephens and Charlie Lastra, find themselves escaping to the same one-horse town for three weeks over the summer. While Sunshine Falls is where Charlie grew up, Nora has come to visit with her sister in the final months before she gives birth. Leaning hard into romantic-comedy tropes, Book Lovers is a genuine, witty read that’ll leave you smiling.

Just For The Summer by Abby Jimenez

Leading man Justin has a particular curse: it seems that every woman he dates will find ‘the one’ after breaking up with him. Taking to Reddit to share his quandary, he is met with a message from Emma, who suffers from the same problem. The two agree to date for the summer, effectively cancelling out each other’s bad luck. Will they catch feelings for each other? Obviously – but we’re still here for it!

Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid

You’ll notice we have a few author double-ups on this list, only because some have really nailed the craft. Atmosphere is the much-anticipated latest release from Taylor Jenkins Reid, who again shows off her incredible research skills by writing a story set at NASA in the early 1980s. Following astrophysics professor Joan Goodwin, who is one of the first women accepted into the space training program, Atmosphere also charts an unexpected love story that’s beautifully unique.

Problematic Summer Romance by Ali Hazelwood

Another author double-up, Problematic Summer Romance is another Ali Hazelwood novel, currently causing a stir on BookTok. Featuring two main characters with quite the age gap (23 and 38), over a week as they attend a wedding at a Sicilian villa, it comes to pass that a summer fling might be what they need.
