Birmingham City have made a strong start upon their return to the Championship this season, with BCFC remaining unbeaten in the league.

Chris Davies’ men held out for a point at home to recently-relegated Ipswich Town on the opening day, and have since recorded back-to-back second-tier wins over Blackburn Rovers and Oxford United.

The Second City Club are one of the sides that will attract the most attention and spectatorship from across the EFL this season, through their heavy levels of investment and global figures in the boardroom. NFL legend Tom Brady makes up part of the ownership group, alongside fellow American Tom Wagner, who have both invested heavily in the club’s playing squad across the past two seasons.

Their level of spending looks set to continue late into this window, as they best prepare for the 2025/26 Championship campaign, subsequently targeting Celtic’s Yang Hyun-jun.

Birmingham City are looking to continue their star-studded transfer window by dipping back into the market for a winger. South Korean international Hyun-jun is one that BCFC are keen to add to their squad, as per Football League World.

Yang Hyun-jun could add to Asian contingency at Birmingham City

Hyun-jun has been a regular for Celtic across the past two seasons, playing regularly in the SPFL alongside a further 12 appearances in the UEFA Champions League. Having joined Celtic in the summer of 2023, the winger has made his way into the first-team picture, alongside making his senior international debut shortly after his arrival in Scotland.

The South Korean’s performances and output north of the border have done enough to catch the eye of suitors from the EFL, as Norwich City have previously held an interest in the 23-year-old.

Should a deal be completed, Hyun-Jun would add to Birmingham City’s current Asian roster. BCFC currently have three Japanese players in their squad, by way of Kanya Fujimoto and former Celtic duo Kyogo Furuhashi and Tomoki Iwata.

The Blues target would also link up with South Korean teammate Paik Seung-ho.

Chris Davies’ summer business so far

So far this summer, Chris Davies has added 10 fresh faces to his squad, four of which being eye-catching loan moves for the likes of James Beadle, Eiran Cashin, Tommy Doyle and Lewis Koumas.

The aforementioned attacking options of Furuhashi and Fujimoto join Marvin Ducksch and Demarai Gray, all of whom are high-profile additions to the forward line and will offer competition to Hyun-Jun should he join the squad.

Keshi Anderson, Scott Wright and Willum Thor Willumson all played roles in Birmingham City’s promotion last term, meaning a starting role for Yang Hyun-jun won’t be a guarantee.
