An appeal for mourners to attend the funeral of a Birmingham man who died at his home last month has been issued by a council after no family have been found.

Richard Albert Spragg hails from the Second City but died at his home in Burntwood in Staffordshire.

Lichfield Police said Mr Spragg’s death was not being treated as suspicious.

His Majesty’s Coroner’s Office in Staffordshire had appealed for help to trace his family or next of kin. with no family coming forward, has been issued by a council.

But despite efforts to locate them, no one has come forward and now Lichfield District Council has arranged a funeral for the 53-year-old.

Now the council is appealing for people to attend the funeral which will be held at at Lichfield & District Crematorium in Fradley at 9am this Thursday (August 28).

In a post a spokesperson for Lichfield District Council said: “We’re appealing for people who may wish to attend the funeral of a Burntwood man, 53 year old Richard Spragg.

“Richard, who was born in Birmingham, died at home in Eastgate Street in July 2025.

“As nobody has been identified to take care of Richard’s final arrangements, Lichfield District Council has organised a funeral service for him.”

The statement continued: “It will take place at Lichfield & District Crematorium in Fradley at 9am this Thursday 28 August 2025. Richard will then be cremated.

“People who may have known Richard, and the public, are welcome to attend the service and we ask you to please share this post.”
