THE reopening of a major commuter route which runs into Thornbury has been delayed.

The A38 over the Gloucester Road flyover at North Filton was due to reopen this Sunday but delays mean it will remain shut until next month.

South Gloucestershire Council has apologised for the delays, adding that the work is ‘crucial’ for the long-term safety of the structure.

A statement read: “Despite our best efforts, we regret to inform you that the A38 over the Gloucester Road Flyover will not reopen as planned on Sunday, August 31

“The work to replace the expansion joints is now expected to be completed next week with the road due to reopen by Monday, September 8.

“Following the reopening, work will continue underneath the Flyover, with lane restrictions remaining in place until December, as originally scheduled.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by these essential works.

“This maintenance work is crucial to ensure the long-term safety and usability of the structure for future generations.”
