The latest additions to the Michelin Guide have been announced – and this time round it’s all eyes on Greater Manchester with a number of new venues making the cut. Three dining spots from the region have been added to the August edition of the Michelin Inspectors’ Favourite New Restaurants.
For August, 16 new additions made it into the Guide, including spots in Dublin, London and Bath. In January, The Michelin Guide 2025 for Great Britain and Ireland – where stars are handed out – also saw Manchester restaurant Skof take home a coveted star less than a year after opening its doors.
The Michelin Guide Inspectors are always on the road, assessing existing restaurants as well as uncovering new ones. While Stars, Green Stars and Bib Gourmands are only revealed at the annual Michelin Guide Ceremony, the Inspectors add restaurants to the selection year round.

These latest additions are released on a monthly basis and this time both Dublin and Greater Manchester have three restaurants each with the latter’s dining scene deemed “increasingly exciting” by the panel of culinary experts.
The first mentioned is Pip, the all-day restaurant launched by acclaimed chef Mary-Ellen McTague back in March within the new Treehouse Hotel on Deansgate.

Rooted in seasonality and low-waste cooking, Pip celebrates the best of the North West’s produce, working with trusted local suppliers such as Littlewoods Butchers, Organic North, Courtyard Dairy, and Kindling Farm.
In it’s write-up for the restaurant, the Inspector’s said that the entry of the Treehouse hotel brand was a “shot in the arm for the hospitality scene” here in the city.
They noted: “For the Manchester branch, Chef Mary-Ellen McTague has taken the reins of its flagship restaurant, a fittingly stylish space with an almost country-chic quality.

“Her cooking shows pride in northwestern produce and packs bags of flavour into every dish, whilst maintaining a fine sense of balance.”
Mary-Ellen is joined by in the new list by chef Shaun Moffat, who launched his latest venture, Winsome, in March too.
Moffat, who has worked at some of London’s best restaurants, and earned plenty of local acclaim at Edinburgh Castle in Ancoats – one of the UK’s top 50 Gastropubs.

Winsome is housed within Whitworth Locke hotel, and takes up the unit formerly home to South American restaurant Peru Perdu which closed its doors last June.
The restaurant launched with a focus on ‘Northern hospitality’ and is serving up ‘thoughtful British cooking’ with seasonal and local produce. Its regularly-changing menu showcases ‘the very best ingredients with a comforting familiarity’.
The guide listing for Winsome calls its a “buzzing brasserie” and praises the cooking as “admirably gutsy”, with a “straightforward quality to it, with hints of nostalgia”.

It adds: “Think cold cuts, whole fish, hearty homemade pies and a mixed grill. It’s all executed with skill and the ingredients are of obvious quality, resulting in no shortage of flavour. The young and enthusiastic service team are a perfect fit for such a fun place.”
Sharing the news on Instagram, the team at Winsome wrote: “Today is a good day. We’re absolutely chuffed to tell you that we’ve made it into the Michelin Guide!”
Completing the pack, a fairly new addition to Stockport’s dining scene, Cantaloupe, a wine-focused restaurant located on the Underbanks which opened in November 2024.

A neighbourhood spot serving up wine from small European producers and mostly Mediterranean dishes, the aim is to celebrate the regional cooking of the continent.
Founders and chefs Josh Reed-Cooper and Mike Thomas first met whilst working just up the road at the acclaimed Where The Light Gets In (wtlgi) – just up the road and another favourite of Michelin’s – and have built up their experience in restaurants including Mana, Sterling, Tine and The Creameries.

Inspired by the likes of Wtlgi, Yellowhammer and Runaway Brewery they’ve taken a punt on a unit by the former air raid shelters – and it’s fair to say Manchester’s food and drink community – and now Michelin – are particularly excited about this one.
The guide writes: “The concise but appealing wine list will appeal to traditional oenophiles, with quality established growers to the fore.
“This is cooking that relies on simplicity and skill, with immense care poured into dishes like peri peri octopus and duck fat crisps, so that the natural flavours shine.”
