The Blades have been beaten by Bristol City, Swansea City and Millwall. They were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Birmingham City at the first round stage.
Ruben Selles joined as their head coach back in June to replace Chris Wilder. He has managed the likes of Southampton, Reading and Hull City in the past.
Ruben Selles managerial stats
As for Middlesbrough, they parted ways with Michael Carrick earlier this summer. Boro turned to Rob Edwards as his replacement.
They have won their first three fixtures in the league on the spin. Edwards’ side have beaten Swansea City, Millwall and Norwich City.
Boro won 2-1 against the latter at Carrow Road last time out to secure an impressive three points. Finn Azaz and Tommy Conway got their goals in East Anglia.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
Harry Mail
“Sheffield United will be low on confidence after their terrible start to the season. SUFC boss Ruben Selles is under pressure already.
“The heat will further intensify on him if they were to lose again this weekend. They are in for a very tough test at the Riverside Stadium.

“Middlesbrough have adapted well to life under Rob Edwards. Boro are on a roll and are looking a strong side at this moment in time.
“They will fancy their chances of making it four wins on the spin on Saturday, and I can see them getting another victory, but it will be a close one.”
Prediction: Middlesbrough 2-1 Sheffield United
James Ray
“These two couldn’t be further apart coming into this one – as good as it gets, and as bad as it gets.
“Middlesbrough should be confident of retaining their perfect Championship record against a Sheffield United side yet to get a point onboard. Ruben Selles hasn’t been helped much in the transfer market, but the toothless nature of the early SUFC displays are a big worry.
“Boro are a side that are capable of punishing them too. It’s hard to see their great defensive record to date being tested too much by the visitors, setting up a comfortable win.”
Prediction: Middlesbrough 2-0 Sheffield United
