It’s one of the world’s most iconic landmarks, regularly attracting over half a million visitors, looking for a chance to walk through its historic halls and playing host to countless state visits and banquets. But for the royal family, life at Buckingham Palace is a wholly unappealing prospect, at least according to one biographer.
Countless column inches have been dedicated to the news that Prince William and the Princess of Wales are moving out of Adelaide Cottage and transplanting their family to Forest Lodge in Windsor. The clan plans to stay in their Grade II listed ‘forever home’ long after William is crowned king, reports The Daily Mail, following in the footsteps of his father, King Charles, who has kept Clarence House as his London base.
A bold move, as many royal watchers have noted, considering how crucial it was for the Firm’s image to have the late Queen Elizabeth at home in Buckingham Palace, flags raised to indicate that the monarch was stationed in the centre of the nation’s capital. However, as royal biographer Ingrid Seward told Hello, the Prince of Wales‘ decision, which she heralds as ‘visionary’, should perhaps come as no surprise.
