A teenager who stabbed a man in the arm after smashing a Trafford family’s window with a stone has walked free from court.
Luke Ryan, 19, had been under the influence of cocaine and cannabis when he rode an e-bike to Compton Close, Trafford, on March 8 this year, where a man he claimed owed him money lived.
Minshull Street Crown Court heard Ryan, who was wearing a balaclava and carrying a lock knife, hurled an ornamental stone through the front window of a grandfather’s home, where he was inside with his family, including his grandson with whom Ryan had a ‘grievance’ with.
Prosecuting, Thomas Sherrington said the victim’s neighbour and another resident rushed to intervene after spotting Ryan. During the confrontation, Ryan stabbed the neighbour in the forearm, causing a 2cm deep wound that ‘exposed muscle and tissue’.

The court heard that the neighbour, who has since made a full recovery, needed help with daily tasks due to his injury that he said would affect him for ‘a long time’.
Some of the incident was captured on CCTV, the court was told. Police arrived as Ryan had fled to nearby bushes and he was detained. He was found in possession of cocaine and cannabis.
He was abusive during his arrest, telling another neighbour: “I’m not finished with you yet.”
Defending, Hayley Bennett said Ryan had expressed remorse for his actions and had recently been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
Judge Maurice Greene said: “It must have been frightening for them [the family] to have this rock come through their window.”
He also described the stabbing as an ‘unpleasant, nasty injury’ and the victim ‘suffered considerable pain’. He said Ryan claimed he acted ‘in panic and self defence’.
Judge Greene added: “These were people who tried to stop someone who committed a criminal offence from getting away.”
Ryan, who was 18 at the time of the offence, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to property, possession of a bladed article, possession of drugs, and unlawful wounding.
