Wrexham and Birmingham City are once again competing in the same division this season.

Birmingham City set an EFL points record with their promotion to League One, while the Dragons finished second in the third tier to book a place in the Championship for the first time since it was rebranded.

The two clubs, which are backed by Ryan Reynolds, Rob Mac and Tom Brady, have had differing starts to the 2025/26 season.

Wrexham face Millwall on Saturday, heading into that clash still searching for their first league win of the campaign.

Brady’s Blues have fared better, but they struggled in gameweek four of the campaign when they met Leicester City.

Birmingham kicked off the weekend’s action on Friday evening, facing off with Leicester City.

The Foxes suffered relegation in 2024/25 and have seen several key players leave the club.

However, they still have plenty of quality in their squad and proved too much for Birmingham on August 29.

When all was said and done, Leicester came away with a 2-0 win on the night, and two former Wrexham transfer targets featured for the Blues.

It was revealed last week that Liverpool youngster Lewis Koumas had chosen to sign for Birmingham despite interest from the Dragons.

Earlier in the window, Wrexham lost out on Tommy Doyle to the Brady-backed outfit, and both players featured against Leicester.

Koumas made his competitive debut for the Midlands outfit earlier this week, losing 1-0 to Modou Faal’s Port Vale in the Carabao Cup.

Friday was his first Championship start and the former Wrexham target struggled.

Birmingham Live gave him a 6/10 and wrote: “The Liverpool loanee played in the number 10 position and wasn’t able to get on the ball anywhere near as much as he would have wanted to.”

Doyle, who replaced Koumas in the eleven after 77 minutes, was also given a 6/10: “Tried to conjure something up and looked eager to make an impression after a slow start to his Blues career, but the game was already getting away from them.”
