Liverpool City Council says it has taken the “difficult decision” to cancel a newly planned event this weekend. The local authority has announced that the planned market in Norris Green, which was due to be launched tomorrow (Sunday), will now not take place.

This decision has been taken as Liverpool is set to face high winds on Sunday. Therefore it is deemed unsafe for traders and members of the public for the market to be put on.

A tweet from Liverpool City Council said: “Due to tomorrow’s forecast high winds, we’ve had to take the difficult decision to postpone Sunday’s market in Norris Green as the safety of traders and visitors is a top priority.

“We hope to announce a new date for this market very soon.

“Apologies for any inconvenience.”

A notice on the council website reads: “Norris Green Market, which was due to be launched on Sunday August 31 has been postponed due to forecasted high winds.

“A new date will be confirmed during the week commencing September 1 2025.”

In August it was announced that two new markets would be launched as the city looks to expand its weekend trading offer.

Such has been the success of events in Stanley Park and Great Homer Street, the city council is to set up two new locations for shoppers to grab a bargain.

Dovecot and Norris Green have been chosen to host the new markets – joining regular community markets at Allerton Hall and Lark Lane.

Stanley Park market launched in July for an initial seven-week trial before extending until October.

The market has since been renewed every week until mid-December due to its popularity and success. The expansion of market offers comes after Liverpool Council announced a huge investment into Greatie earlier this year.
