Areas set to be spared the UK heatwave in September – which could roast the country in 30C – have been revealed. Maps and charts from WX Charts show not everywhere will be burning red as temperatures soar in the ninth month of the year.

The widely anticipated September heatwave could trigger 30C temperatures in and around September 8 and September 9. But the good weather will be primarily in the east and south.

It means counties set to miss out include Bedfordshire, Somerset, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, as well as Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Northants, Buckinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Cambridgeshire, Oxfordshire and also Nottinghamshire.

Rutland, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire, Shropshire, the West Midlands, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cumbria, Durham, Northumberland and Yorkshire will also be spared.

The BBC Weather team expects the start of September to be “wet and windy”, adding: “Following an occasionally wet and windy weekend, unsettled weather will remain the hallmark of the coming week. Monday will have showers or more prolonged rain, some heavy with a chance of isolated thunderstorms, accompanied by stiff and gusty winds.

“On Tuesday, as one low pressure system departs the northern UK another looks like arriving in the south, bringing further occasionally heavy and thundery rain.

“A brief drier interlude will be followed by further low pressure circulations and frontal systems coming from the south-west, so we can soon expect a return of showers or more widespread rain, with a continuing risk of thunderstorms and hail.

“A temporary respite from the rain could come around Friday as a shallow ridge of high pressure crosses the UK but rain and showers will probably return at the weekend. However, uncertainty rises, with some models depicting a build of high pressure to the south and east.

“Temperatures are going to fluctuate around the average for early September, feeling a bit chilly at times in any heavier rain or stronger winds.”
