LEVI GRANT FUND: Vehicle charging point (Image:Owen Humphreys/PA)

Residents across Sefton are invited to partake in an online consultation regarding future positioning of EV (Electric Vehicle) Charging Points across the Borough to increase electric vehicle usage.

Sefton Council have been awarded £1.6 million as part of its allocation of the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Grant Fund from Central and Regional Government. This is primarily aimed at supporting households without off-street car parking over the remainder of the decade.

David Baron, community campaigner, raised the notion of increased charging points across Sefton in 2020, acknowledging the need to use widely accessible sites, such as supermarkets and other large public areas.

Mr. Barton says: “I am pleased to note that this consultation is now being acted upon and would encourage as many people, especially residents, businesses and investors to take part.

“If we can provide as many practical locations that ensure short, mid, and long-term journeys for commuters, this will provide the best possible incentive to utilise electric transportation across all social groups; however we must also keep the highways as clear and accessible for motorists if this venture is to have ultimate longevity.

“I am strongly advocating for as many public open spaces, such as existing supermarkets, to heed this opportunity, as not only may they be able to provide a centralised location and indeed profit from it themselves, but this may encourage other areas across Southport, Bootle and Crosby to utilise sites that have long lain vacant without any other practical purpose.”

The consultation runs until September 28.
