A new entertainment space including the nine-hole course, darts and shuffleboards will cost £1.45m, Darlington Council said, as part of plans to extent the centre’s leisure offering.

A new spinning studio will also replace the existing fitness studio, costing £750,000, and will be able to hold classes with virtual instructors.

“The Dolphin Centre has been at the heart of Darlington life for over 40 years. As a 43-year-old building, it naturally needs some tender loving care from time to time, and these new proposals will help make sure it continues to thrive.”

It comes after the success of the DC Bowl bowling alley, which opened in 2021 after a £1.7m investment.

The plans are set to go before the council’s Cabinet meeting next week.

If approved, work will begin later this year and is expected to be completed by the new year.

Upgrades to the 1982-built centre’s electrical systems are also due to take place.
