Leeds United’s deadline day will be remembered by the fanbase for all the wrong reasons.

After the win against Everton in the opening game, the stuffing has been knocked out of the Leeds fanbase since, albeit last week’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle United was not a bad result at all.

Daniel Farke has effectively been hung out to dry with the lack of resources he has been given, especially when you look at other promoted teams like Sunderland.

With the supporters’ frustrations at an all-time high, Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe will have to answer for the underwhelming deadline he allowed on his watch.

Harry Wilson seemed to be arriving at Elland Road in a last-minute deal with Fulham, but this ultimately collapsed.

Wilson alone would not have been enough to save the window, but the fact that Leeds couldn’t even bring him in was a damming indictment on the 49ers and their seeming lack of preparation for the Premier League.

With the window now closed, the 49ers may have to delve into the free agent market to bring extra bodies in to West Yorkshire.

Marathe will likely face questions on this at the national meetup Q&A session in New Orleans with the Leeds United supporters group in the US, Canada and Mexico.

Leeds United Americas posted on their X account on 1 September that supporters can still submit a question that will be put to the chairman.

Parag Marathe must face the music

If United’s chairman refuses to answer, or gives wishy-washy answers when asked about the club’s recruitment strategy and failings this summer, there will be a significant portion of the Elland Road faithful who call for the 49ers to sell the club.

If it was a PSR decision that held Leeds back in the market, Marathe must specify this in the Q&A.

If PSR did hold the Whites back, he must also be questioned why the likes of Illan Meslier have not been sold despite him evidently not being a part of Farke’s plans for the Premier League campaign.
