A warning has been issued for ANY state pensioner with online or mobile banking. The Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) state pensioners are being warned over online or mobile banking – and the need to keep track of payments.

Marygold & Co group CEO Matthew Parden said: “For pensioners, keeping finances simple and organised is crucial.”

Mr Parden said: “Setting up alerts through online or mobile banking can keep track of payments like the state pension or Winter Fuel Payment, to ensure they arrive on time.”

Money Helper advises a bank account (also called a current account) is the easiest way to access your payments. It lets you receive payments, like wages, benefits and pension and pay for things or take out cash with a debit card.

It allows you to transfer money to pay bills or other people and manage your account through mobile and online banking, and, in many cases, over the phone, in branch or at the Post Office, too.

There are lots of options, including accounts that accept those with a poor credit history.

The expert from Marygold & Co said: “The Government’s benefits calculator covers Pension Credit, Universal Credit, and council tax reductions, while Citizens Advice can also guide people through options.

“Getting ahead by reviewing potential support before financial pressures hit – for example, before autumn costs mount – can make a real difference.”

Money Helper says if you can’t get a bank account, you can collect your benefit or State Pension payment in cash by visiting a Post Office or PayPoint outlet (often found in a corner shop).

To do this, you’ll be sent either a payment card, or voucher code by text message or email.
