Looks like you’ll be able to get a sausage roll, and other fan favourites, cheaper than ever as the huge bakery chain, Greggs, is set to open a discount food shop in Leeds after planning permission has been granted. If you love yourself a steak bake, a cheeky sarnie or any other of the popular bakery’s tasty goodies, you could be in for a bargain.
We love a bit of beige grub, and the Greggs Outlet concept is set to convert a vacant shop unit at 163-165 Chapeltown Road. You can get day-old food is available at lower prices. The Northern bakery brand already has an outlet elsewhere in the UK, selling day-old products at reduced prices, on Hollin Park Parade in Gipton. And, it is looking to do the same in Leeds.

Greggs has previously said that it aims to open 50 Outlets nationwide by the end of the year, with part of the profits from the shops donated to the Greggs Community Grant Programme. The programme provides funding of up to £20,000 per year, for up to two years, to not-for-profit organisations to help them tackle local challenges and serve their communities
It’ll sit in the Chapeltown Road Conservation Area – and a planning officer’s report to Leeds City Council says the would not harm the appearance of the 1930s site. Greggs sought permission to install a new shop front with new doors, windows and a roller shutter, along with air conditioning units.
On the company website, it says that the scheme helps “tackle food waste while allowing people in disadvantaged areas to enjoy our food at a huge discount”.
We aren’t sure when the new outlet will open, but we will keep an eye out. Find out more about Greggs Outlet stores here.
