• King Charles and Prince Harry are tentatively slated to meet up as soon as next week, as Harry will be in London for the WellChild Awards on September 8.

A potential meetup between father and son King Charles and Prince Harry next week could be “make-or-break” for the two men, a source told Us Weekly.

“If it goes well, it could lead to other family members being open to better relationships,” the insider added. “If things get leaked negatively, then it’s done, and there’s no chance [for peace].”

The Duke of Sussex will be in London on September 8—next Monday—for the WellChild Awards, an organization he has been patron of for 17 years. That date also happens to mark the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death at 96 years old in 2022.

Since then, the King has been diagnosed with cancer, and “Harry is concerned about his father and feels the weight of time,” the source said, adding that a “heightened sense of urgency” is “a catalyst” for both men.

“For Charles, a meeting with Harry means establishing harmony,” the insider said. “[He] understands that headlines and strife are not good for anyone, and he wants things to move forward. For Harry, it’s an opening for his children to have a relationship with the grandfather.”

A successful meeting next week could, at least, “clear the air and have a fresh start,” they said, after years of strife between Harry and members of the royal family.

Other than a “brief phone call” for Charles’s 76th birthday last November, father and son have barely been in touch. While no meeting is confirmed, Harry said in an interview with the BBC in May that he would like reconciliation with his family, and in July, representatives for both the King and Harry met in London—a hopeful sign.

“Charles does want to meet Harry,” a source told Us Weekly. “He doesn’t want this falling-out to overshadow his legacy. But Harry has caused chaos and hurt, so it’s complicated.” If a meeting happens, it’ll likely be private “and more likely to be on the King’s terms rather than Harry’s,” royal historian Marlene Koenig said.

“A meeting is feasible, and both sides are open to it,” the source said. “This marks the first tentative steps of reconciliation.” Though the likelihood of a meetup is “high,” it will likely be brief rather than an “in-depth” conversation about deeper issues.

“It would [take time] for the public to get used to it,” the insider said of a reconciliation between Charles and Harry. “But ultimately, the public wants them to make amends.”
