King Charles and Prince Harry might finally be ready to sit down together. With Harry due back in London on September 8 for the WellChild Awards, there’s growing buzz that father and son could meet for the first time since February 2024.

King Charles Motivated by Harmony, Says Ex-Butler

Former royal butler Grant Harrold, who worked for Charles between 2004 and 2011, believes the monarch’s driving force is his wish for peace. In his new book “The Royal Butler: My Remarkable Life of Royal Service” and in an interview with GB News, Harrold explained, “I know what the King’s like, he likes everyone to be happy. He likes everyone to get on. So you can guarantee the King without question wants it resolved.”

Harrold also suggested that recent meetings between Harry’s team and palace aides point to progress. “What we’ve seen recently is definitely signs that it could happen,” he said, noting that Charles will make the final decision about whether to see his son.

The reunion would carry added significance. Harry’s visit coincides with the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, and with the King’s cancer diagnosis weighing heavily, insiders say there’s a “heightened sense of urgency” to mend ties while there’s still time.

Prince William Reportedly Thinks the Meeting is a ‘Terrible Idea’

While King Charles may be open to a fresh start, Prince William appears less convinced. According to The Royalist, a close friend of the heir to the throne believes William views the potential meeting as a “terrible idea.”

“Ultimately, William is a loyal soldier,” the friend said. “He respects his father’s rank, and he respects his father’s right to make his own decisions, and he won’t make a fuss if it happens. But he thinks a Harry meeting is a terrible, terrible idea.”

Still, a palace insider told Us Weekly that the moment could be “make-or-break” for the royal family.

“If it goes well, it could lead to other family members being open to better relationships,” the insider added. “If things get leaked negatively, then it’s done, and there’s no chance [for peace].”

“For Charles, a meeting with Harry means establishing harmony,” the insider said. “[He] understands that headlines and strife are not good for anyone, and he wants things to move forward. For Harry, it’s an opening for his children to have a relationship with the grandfather.”
