In a close and dramatic game, Great Britain got the 89-83 win over Montenegro, and Sweden is the big winner of this result, since on a three-way tie in Group B at 1-4, they get qualified to the Round of 16.

Montenegro needed the win over previous winless Great Britain, but Akwasi Yeboah (23 p.) and Myles Hesson (25 p.) made things happen.

It was the first Eurobasket win for Great Britain since 2013, and coach Marc Steutel admitted, “We are overcome with emotion. I think we all poured our heart and soul into this. I feel exceptionally proud to experience this with this group of people. It’s really special”.

On the other side, Nikola Vucevic played his heart out with 31 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists, and it was still not enough for what ended up being his last game with the Montenegrin national team.

“It’s a great disappointment for us, but I have to congratulate Great Britain”, said Vucevic after the game, “It was a great opportunity for us, but we couldn’t get stops, and that’s the way it is”.

With the game on the line, Vucevic made it a two-point game (85-83) with 54 seconds on the clock, Yeboah answered back (87-83), and the game was over.
