Birmingham City were linked with Serbian star Aleksandar Mitrovic during the summer transfer windowAleksandar Mitrovic celebrates a goal for Al-Hilal
Birmingham City have just completed a busy summer transfer window which saw the club sign 12 new players and offload 13.
Chris Davies, along with director of football Craig Gardner, has made tweaks to the squad which won League One in record-breaking style last season in the hope of another promotion push in the Championship.
But they didn’t sign every player they were linked with.
Indeed, there seemed to be very little chance that they would sign Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic when he was linked with the club in August.
Mitrovic has plundered goals everywhere he has played and boasts a brilliant record of 62 goals in 100 caps for Serbia.
Two years ago Mitrovic quit Fulham for the riches of Saudi Arabia and has helped Al-Hilal to four trophies, but they have decided to part ways with him having bagged Darwin Nunez from Liverpool in their latest big money deal.
Mitrovic was linked with Blues, Leeds United and Sunderland during the summer transfer window before the deadline passed on Monday.
With a return to England off the table for Mitrovic, the striker has agreed to cancel his reported £400,000 per week contract with Al-Hilal and now looks set to move to Qatar.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Mitrovic is set to join Qatari side Al-Rayyan. They finished fifth in the Qatari Stars League last season.
