Footage of the incident was widely shared on social media

A man and woman have been charged over an incident that saw a 12-year-old girl allegedly brandishing weapons on a Dundee street.

The girl was earlier charged with possessing offensive weapons in St Ann Lane, in the Lochee area of the city, on Saturday 23 August.

Police Scotland said officers had made “extensive inquiries” into the incident and repeated pleas for people not to share misinformation on social media.

It comes after footage was shared widely online, including by Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X and Tesla who posted to his 225 million followers.

Much of the speculation focused on the ethnicity and actions of people allegedly confronted by the girl.

Police Scotland said the 12-year-old girl would be referred to the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration and the Procurator Fiscal.

A force spokesperson added: “Members of the public are again urged not to share misinformation about this incident or speculate on the circumstances.”
