Celtic had to settle for Kelechi Iheanacho in the end.
Monday’s transfer deadline day was a disaster as the Hoops hierarchy failed to buy a replacement for Adam Idah, who left Parkhead for Swansea City.
Iheanacho arrives as a free agent after Sevilla severed ties with the Nigerian, who only scored three goals in 11 appearances for the Spanish outfit.
At Middlesbrough on loan last season, the 28-year-old’s goal return was also poor, so have Celtic really signed a quality striker?

Brendan Rodgers thinks Celtic fans will love Iheanacho, but only time will tell. Meanwhile, former Ajax and Nigeria star Finidi George has had his say.
The Champions League and AFCON winner managed the Nigerian national team for a period in 2024, and thinks Celtic is the perfect fit for Iheanacho.
He made three things clear about the striker: he is a proven talent, will thrive in an attacking team, and has the hunger to succeed.
George told Footy Africa: “Kelechi is a proven talent, and I think Celtic is the perfect stage for him to show that again. Sometimes players just need the right environment, a club that believes in them.
“He’s got the quality, and I believe he will deliver.
“Celtic play attacking football, and Kelechi thrives in that kind of setup. It’s not easy to come back after a tough spell, but great players always find a way.
“He has the hunger, and this is his chance.”
When could Iheanacho make his Celtic debut?
Iheanacho has not been called up by Nigeria for the September internationals. He’s scored 15 goals in 59 caps, but hasn’t played for his nation since May against Jamaica.
The Hoops are back in action on September 14 against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, so Iheanacho could make his debut then.
He doesn’t look particularly fit, but Brendan Rodgers will do his best to get the striker up to speed over the international break.
