Glasgow City Council has accepted £6.845m from the Scottish Government for 2025/26 to improve energy efficiency in city homes.

The money supports the Heat in Buildings: Area Based Schemes (HiBs:ABS) programme, which has been running for 13 years and focuses on reducing fuel poverty and energy bills.

The funding will help owner-occupiers and private renters, especially those at risk of fuel poverty, to install energy-saving measures like external wall insulation.

The scheme targets areas in the lowest 25% of the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation, council tax bands A to C, some in band D, and mixed-tenure blocks managed by registered social landlords.

Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Housing at Glasgow City Council, said: “The work being carried out through the programme is important, reducing energy bills for many households and cutting emissions.

“The new funding for 2015/26 will mean even more people and families will see the economic, environmental and social benefits coming to Glasgow through this work.”
