Patrick Dorgu has been quizzed on Manchester United’s brutal decision-making regarding Rasmus Hojlund.
Hojlund, 22, was loaned to Napoli on transfer deadline day, with the Denmark international having just endured a difficult campaign at Old Trafford.
A decision by manager Ruben Amorim was made on the former Atalanta man – with Ineos choosing to sanction a loan deal for Hojlund to Napoli.
With Benjamin Sesko having arrived, Hojlund was initially happy to stay and fight for his place, at United, but that option was whisked away in the final days of the window.
Dorgu, an international teammate of Hojlund, has now been asked what he thought of the situation regarding his close friend, prior to Denmark’s World Cup qualifier against Scotland tonight.
“That’s how it is in football. You never know when it’s your turn to move on,” began Dorgu, as per Ekstra Bladet
“We knew that it would happen to Christian [Eriksen], but it was perhaps a bigger shock that Rasmus had to move on. I talked to him a lot during the process and could sense which way it was going.
“Hopefully, we will now see each other every time on the national team.”
After making the switch from Lecce to United in the January window, Dorgu praised the support he received from both of his international teammates, who both have now moved on to pastures new.
“I have been very happy to be teammates with Christian and Rasmus. It was a big plus for me that they were at the club when I joined. That way it was easier to become part of the squad,” he added.
“But it was in no way decisive for my choice of Manchester United.
“I was thinking much more about the coach’s plans and ideas with me when I had to make the decision.
“I travelled alone to Italy when I was 17. I am also alone in Manchester and I am fine that way.
“You become incredibly strong mentally when you travel alone so early, because you then have to make a lot of decisions. I am sure that mental strength has helped me on the pitch.”
