One of the city’s most popular takeaways is opening a new store. Nabzy’s, known for its chicken and pizza, first opened on Liverpool’s Leece Street in 2016. Since then, it has become a favourite, particularly among students, which has allowed the brand to grow.

You can now find branches in Norris Green and Anfield, as well as further afield in Manchester and Chorley. It recently opened a new Merseyside location on Stanley Road in Bootle. The brand now has its eyes set on South Road in Waterloo, where a banner is on display on the unit next to Tapas Tapas. It reads: “Nabzy’s coming soon”.

Nabzy’s status in Liverpool has achieved legendary status in recent times. The takeaway was used as the backdrop of an episode of Amelia Dimoldenberg’s Chicken Shop Date starring Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann, and another, earlier episode featuring YouTube star KSI.

On another occasion, a box of the famous chicken was even used as a prop in the Everyman Theatre’s production of Romeo and Juliet.

And it’s fair to say the brand is no stranger to winning awards, having been voted the number one student takeaway in the UK and given the stamp of approval by former Liverpool FC star Sadio Mane.

ECHO reporter Christoper Megrath ventured down to the fried chicken specialists to try one of their latest offerings – a spicy sauce that left tears in his eyes.

Called ‘The Tang Reaper,’ it’s a fiery collaboration with the fizzy drink Tango and is said to make diners “spontaneously combust” due to the heat.

Chris said: “Naturally, I couldn’t wait to try it.

“You can have the Tang Reaper sauce on any menu item – doused inside a beef burger, splashed across red salted chips, or as a dip for fillets.

“I chose to have mine inside a fried chicken burger with lettuce and cheese.

“I specifically asked the serving staff to give me as much as physically possible to really experience the full force of the sauce.”
