Armed officers surrounded a police station after a man was spotted with a crossbow and hammer. Emergency services were called to Birkenhead Police Station on Mortimer Street at around 2pm on Saturday, September 6.
It followed a report a man was in the foyer of the police station carrying a hammer and a crossbow. Merseyside Police said no threats were made and no injuries were sustained. Pictures of the scene taken by eyewitnesses and shared on social media showed armed police surrounding the building with their guns drawn.
The officers were outside facing the police station. Several police cars could also be seen in the area. A spokesperson for the force confirmed a 41-year-old man from Seacombe was arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a weapon. He is in police custody to be questioned.
