The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan ended an enjoyable weekend in Germany with a 5-2 loss to hosts, ESV Kaufbeuren in the 3rd place playoff of the Warrior Pro invitational tournament.

Brett Neumann had the first chance of the game when he backhanded a shot from close range just wide after a dash through the offensive zone by Brayden Burke to set him up.

Rylan Schwartz later got on the end of a stretch pass from Sideroff that allowed him in on net all alone but Rihards Babulis managed to keep out his shot with a stretched pad.

Jere Laaksonen then opened the scoring for the hosts on the powerplay when he tipped Joe Cassetti’s shot from just in front of the crease.

Neumann almost grabbed an instant response for Glasgow when he snapped a rebound on net from a sharp angle but it was smothered by Babulis as ESVK took the 1st by 1-0.

Kaufbeuren doubled their advantage in the second period through Nikolaus Heigl before Cassetti set up Sami Blomqvist for a backdoor tap in to make it three.

Aittokallio was then replaced in net just after the half-way point in the game as Lucas Brine entered the crease shortly before Cassetti sniped a fourth goal high into the net.

Brine was called into action again by Cassetti when the former Belfast Giant rifled a low shot on net and then quickly fizzed a rebound on target which forced the Brit netminder to dive across the line and swat the puck off the red line.

The game then took a physical turn as Schwartz got into a scrappy battle for posession behind the ESVK net before finding Heard in front of net who zipped a shot from close range just wide before getting into an after the whistle tustle.

On the following play, Richard Jarusek got involved in the nitty gritty when he lay a massive hit on Max Kislinger at the boards.

It all boiled over in the final minute of the period when Heard slammed into the back of Rio Kaiser and was ejected from the game while Schwartz wrestled another Kaufbeuren defenceman to the ground.

The third period was largely uneventful but in the final 10 minutes, Brayden Burke sparked life for the Clan as he poked a shot from just in front past Babulis to open their account for the night.

Just over a minute later, Cade Neilson pounced on a powerplay opportunity to bring the visitors back to within two with a quick snap on the rebound.

It was little matter in the end though as ESV Kaufbeuren closed out the game with an Alec Zawatsky empty net goal to round out the game 5-2 victors.
