Beat the Chasers was back on our screens this evening as a new selection of contestants took on some of the best quizzing brains in Britain as Bradley Walsh returned as presenter.

The spin-off to the ITV quiz show ‘The Chase’ sees contestants, who feel brave enough, going head-to-head with not only one Chaser but five of them. In the Cash Builder round, contestants answer five multiple choice questions for the chance to bank up to £5,000.

If a contestant starts with a wrong answer, they are out of the game. Then they are given the option of facing between two and five chasers. The more chasers contestants are against, the more money they can win. However, the more Chasers taken on by a contestant – the higher the risk.

The game sees questions alternating between the contestant and the chasers. If either get the question wrong, the clock will keep running down until a correct answer is given. The first side to run out of time loses the game.

In tonight’s episode, Charm from the Wirral managed to win a whopping £30,000 after an incredible effort in both her cash-builder round and the subsequent head-to-head with the chasers.

Charm, who works as a travel agent told Bradley Walsh before answering questions that if she was to win any money she would spend it on getting her Wirral bathroom done as it has not been done in the 20 years she has lived at the property.

Out of a possible five questions asked in the cash-builder by Bradley, Charm scored each correctly and banked £5,000. From Series 4, if the contestant answered all five cash builder questions correctly, they would receive a ‘Super Offer’ from the Chasers. If they accept the offer, they will face all six chasers in the final round for a huge amount of money.

However, fans noticed that this option wasn’t given to Charm after she had answered all five of her questions right. One confused viewer wrote on X “No super offer for getting five questions right? #BeatTheChasers” and a second said “What happened to the super offer” with a thinking face emoji.

Chaser Anne Hegerty posted to X: “Producer decision”, when asked “For the contestant who got 5k the super offer wasn’t given.. has that offer been scrapped?”

Charm chose to take on three chasers, Anne, Darragh and Mark. She started with a time of 60 seconds and her competitors began the game on 38 seconds, meaning she had a 22-second advantage to try for the £30,000.

In spectacular scenes, Charm beat the Chasers with just one second left on her clock. After the clock stopped, she burst into tears as Bradley held her hand up high.

An impressed Paul Sinha told Charm: “Let me tell you this. If you’d have picked one more Chaser, you’d have lost. You pulled out the single greatest one-second left answer under pressure. The Doctor Who answer was the greatest one-second left victory answer I’ve seen on this show.”
