• Queen Camilla shares two adult children with her ex-husband Andrew Parker Bowles.
  • Their son Tom was born on December 18, 1974.
  • Their daughter Laura arrived on January 1, 1978.

Long before Camilla Parker Bowles became Queen Camilla, Tom Parker Bowles and Laura Lopes gave her a much simpler title: mom. The British royal shares her two adult children with her ex-husband Andrew, to whom she was married from 1973-1995. Following their divorce, Camilla tied the knot with then-Prince Charles in 2005. Of course, he too entered the marriage with children of his own: Prince William and Prince Harry. All four kids attended the duo’s nuptials at Windsor Guildhall, at which point Camilla officially became Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall. She was later crowed Queen in 2022.

Like most members of the royal family, Queen Camilla does not speak about her private life with the press. Her son, however, has been open about what it was like growing up in his mother’s household. Per GB News, Camilla’s motto was “you have to laugh.”

“And whenever things got bad, we just pulled back together like the Roman centurions moving into their tortoise formation with the shields around,” Tom added. “It was important, that power of togetherness.”

Ahead, here’s everything you should know about the two adult children of Queen Camilla: food writer Tom Parker Bowles and art historian Laura Lopes.

Camilla and Andrew’s son Tom was born on December 18, 1974, just one year after their 1973 nuptials. Then-Prince Charles was named the baby’s godfather shortly after his arrival. Tom grew up in two historic homes—Bolehyde Manor and Middlewick House—before enrolling in Eton College and, later, the University of Oxford.

Following his graduation from Oxford, Tom established a career as a food writer. He has since authored nine cookbooks, beginning with 2004’s E Is For Eating – An Alphabet of Greed. He is also a celebrated restaurant critic in the U.K. and has been a guest judge on a number of cooking shows, including Family Food Fight, The Hotplate, MasterChef, and Food Glorious Food.

In 2005, just one month after his mother’s own wedding, Tom married fashion editor Sara Buys. The couple said “I do” at St Nicholas’ Church in Oxfordshire. They later welcomed children Lola and Frederick in 2007 and 2010, respectively. In 2018, they called it quits after 12 years of marriage.

“I’m divorced, but you get on with your ex-wife for the sake of the children, that’s what matters,” Tom told People in 2024. “My priority is to make sure my children are happy and safe and comfortable–just like any other divorced father.”

Since his mother’s marriage to King Charles, Tom has spoken positively about the realities of “blended families,” adding that his children “adore” King Charles, who has been a “wonderful step-grandfather” to Lola and Freddy. The kids even have special nicknames for their grandparents.

“All of our children—my sister’s children, too—have grown up with Gaga and Uppa,” Tom explained. “They’ve grown up from an early age knowing no different. [They know] Gaga as Gaga, and that she’s a really great grandmother who occasionally spoils them in a good way.”

The dad-of-two also readily acknowledges his position with regard to his step-father and step-siblings. “We are married in, we are not the royal family,” Tom added in the same People interview. “I find everyone incredibly nice and friendly and we’ve know them all for a long time. It does seem natural.”

Camilla and Andrew welcomed their daughter Laura on January 1, 1978. Like her brother, she attended Heywood Preparatory School in Corsham as a child and later studied art history at Oxford Brookes University. Laura became an art curator following her graduation, interning at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice and eventually co-founding Eleven Fine Art, where she served as gallery director for 11 years.

In 2006, Laura married Harry Lopes, grandson of Lord Astor of Hever. The aristocratic couple wed at St Cyriac’s Church in Lacock, Wiltshire; Laura wore a gown by Anna Valentine, who also designed Camilla’s 2005 wedding dress.

Following their nuptials, Laura and Harry welcomed three children: daughter Eliza and twin boys Gus and Louis. The tight-knit family has since stayed out of the spotlight. Laura has made an appearance at a few important royal events over the years, however, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 wedding and Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022. Gus and Louis also served as pages of honor alongside cousin Fredrick at the 2023 coronation.
