The BBC has announced the end of phone voting for its popular show Strictly Come Dancing. From the next series onwards, the results will be decided exclusively by online voting.

This change also has a direct impact on Eurovision voting in the UK. For the first time ever, UK viewers will cast their votes for the Eurovision Song Contest entirely online. Until now, British audiences could vote both by phone and online, but from 2026 onwards, the online platform will be the only available method.

At the moment, it is still unclear whether online voting will remain a premium service (requiring a small fee per vote) or if the system will be adapted to offer free participation, similar to how some national broadcasters operate.

The decision marks a significant shift in the UK’s approach to audience participation, reflecting a wider trend of broadcasters across Europe investing more in digital platforms.
