The Phil’s new look for the DC-themed nightclub
One of Liverpool’s historic buildings has undergone a temporary makeover. The Philharmonic Hall has been turned into a nightclub today (Monday, September 8) as part of Merseyside has been transformed into a DC universe for a major Hollywood film.
Famous streets and landmarks in Liverpool have been transformed for the filming of Clayface over the past week. Clayface is a shapeshifting villain who is a recurring enemy of Batman. Although, the project is not believed to be part of the existing ‘The Batman’ cinematic universe starring Robert Pattinson, which was also filmed in Liverpool with the character famously jumping off the Liver Building.
Earlier in the month, the Cunard Building and Water Street were used for filming as overflowing bins stencilled with fake graffiti lined the street outside Gaucho And, rain towers could be seen cascading rain onto the set as actors huddled under umbrellas.
And, the exterior of Liverpool Crown Court and the surrounding Derby Square in the city centre were turned into a gritty film set for the horror-thriller.
Derby Square was also littered with rubbish, fake graffiti had been stencilled onto walls and dozens of tents had been put up.
However, last week the spotlight shifted to another Liverpool landmark – the World Museum – which was reimagined as Gotham City Courthouse.

A newly installed sign marked the transformation, while actors and production crew descended on the area.
But today it was a nightclub that temporarily popped up in the place of the historic Philharmonic Hall that has got us talking.
The hall has been renamed to Club Vesuvius, a nightclub in Gotham City, as it is being used in the ongoing filming of Clayface around the city. The Phil has been give a new red-based logo to fit in with the movie.

In the DC universe, the owner of the nightclub is Johnny Sabatino, a former mobster, who reopened the club following an arson scare.
The film is directed by Speak No Evil filmmaker James Watkins and is expected to lean into horror-thriller territory.
