Sarah Michelle Gellar and Elijah Wood have landed roles in the upcoming horror sequel Ready or Not 2.

Officially titled Ready or Not: Here I Come, the newly announced cast also includes legendary horror director David Cronenberg, The Pitt actor Shawn Hatosy, and The Dark Knight’s Kevin Durand.

The Buffy and Lord of the Rings stars will join Samara Weaving, who is set to reprise her role as Grace from 2019’s Ready or Not, and the previously announced Kathryn Newton.

Announcing the new cast via a video on social media, Searchlight Pictures shared a clip in which the new cast members were added to the table in the form of a deck of cards.

Filming for the sequel, which sees Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett return to direct, is already underway.

Also returning to pen the sequel are original writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy (via Variety).

“We’re thrilled to be returning to the world of Ready or Not with Samara,” Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett said, “and so excited to work with this immensely talented cast and the incredible artists across every department joining the Ready or Not family.”

Searchlight’s Matthew Greenfield added: “We’re beyond excited to make another film with the phenomenal Radio Silence. We get to go on another ride with the amazing Samara Weaving, mix in awesome new voices, and bring audiences a fresh take that’s every bit as twisted and fun as the first one. This is for those who’ve been waiting, and those who didn’t see it coming.”

Per the official synopsis, the first film “follows a young bride as she joins her new husband’s rich, eccentric family in a time-honored tradition that turns into a lethal game with everyone fighting for their survival”.

Previously speaking about the film’s ending, which sees Grace escape the evil family, producer Chad Villella revealed that it nearly ended very differently.

“The ending was much different, initially, when we first got the script. A lot darker,” he said in an interview with Bloody Disgusting.
