The British Royal family is currently preparing for a funeral after losing one of their beloved relatives.

Last week, Katharine, the Duchess of Kent, passed away at the age of 92. According to the BBC, the funeral service for the duchess will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. Katharine’s funeral is remarkable in that she was not only the eldest family member, but that she was Catholic, making this service the very first Catholic funeral for a royal member “in modern history,” as the BBC noted.

The funeral service will be a private one, and the coffin will then be placed at the burial site in Frogmore in Windsor.

Going according to Catholic tradition, the family will have a reception of the casket in the cathedral that will be attended by Katharine’s close relatives the day before the service. The coffin will then stay in Lady Chapel overnight.

“On the afternoon of Tuesday, 16th September, Their Majesties The King and Queen and Members of the Royal Family will join The Duke of Kent and members of The Duchess’s family at the Requiem Mass for The Duchess of Kent,” the Buckingham Palace statement read.
