Birmingham City boast one of the biggest average gates in the Championship so far this seasonA general view of supporters outside St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park
Birmingham City have the seventh largest home crowd in the Championship so far this season.
Blues haven’t lost a league game on home turf since April 2024 – 27 games ago – and they enjoyed an unbeaten season at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park in League One.
Their strong form in B9 has continued since promotion with a draw against Ipswich Town on the opening day followed up by a 1-0 victory over Oxford United.
Such results, coupled with the improved match day experience on offer at St Andrew’s, has ensured Blues’ home ground is sold out more often than not.
Blues averaged crowds of 26,326 across last season and their average attendance in their first two Championship matches is 27,425.
While St Andrew’s has a capacity of around 30,000, around 2,500 seats can be lost for hospitality and segregation purposes.
Six clubs in the Championship currently boast larger average attendances than Blues: Leicester City (31,037), Southampton (29,946), Derby County (29,157), Ipswich (29,142), Coventry (29,034) and Sheffield United (27,434).
Based on their attendances so far, Blues would have been inside the top-six of last season’s Championship. Sheffield Wednesday had the sixth best average attendance in the league last term with 26,636 but they are averaging 20,712 this season, largely owing to discontent at the way owner Dejphon Chansiri is running the club.
Blues’ opponents this weekend Stoke City have experienced an upturn in attendances thanks to optimism under manager Mark Robins. The Potters’ home crowds are sitting at 25,537, compared to 22,804 last season.
