The male motorist – who police have not named – appeared in court this week and was fined £1,500 and banned from driving for 22 months.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “On the 20th August 2025, the driver of this vehicle appeared to have forgotten how to use his brakes and somehow did not see this rather large roundabout in Bramhope when travelling from Adel. The vehicle had driven over the roundabout and damaged street furniture in the process causing a significant amount of damage.

“When our local Team 3 NPT officer arrived, the contributory factor to this collision was obvious. The driver who was very unsteady on his feet, and smelt strongly of intoxicants, soon found himself arrested for drink driving by the officer after being three times the drink driving limit from a preliminary sample of breath.
“In custody, the driver was unable to provide two specimens of breath for analysis and therefore, was charged with failing to provide.
“Yesterday [September 9], the driver was in court and pleaded guilty where he received a 22 month driving disqualification and fined £1,500.00.
“In West Yorkshire, 130 people were killed or seriously injured in 2023 in collisions involving driver/riders under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
“Luckily on this occasion, no injuries were caused.
