The stars descended on London’s 02 Arena on Wednesday night for this year’s National Television Awards. And there was one result that nobody in the audience saw coming, as the unthinkable happened and Ant and Dec didn’t win Best Presenter!

The biggest night of the year in British TV, the NTAs is always a star studded event and this year was no different, as an array of celebs lined the red carpet in the capital, despite the tube strikes.

Masked Singer presenter Joel Dommett was on hosting duties to see his ITV show miss out on one of the early awards of the night, as it was beaten by Michael McIntyre’s Big Show for Entertainment. But, if the millions of viewers at home thought that was going to the biggest shock of the night they could think again, as that arrived when it was time for Presenter to be handed out.

Given that Saturday Night Takeaway hasn’t been on this year, Ant and Dec haven’t been on screen as much as in previous years, but they were still the red hot favourites to win the accolade they’d taken home 23 years in a row.

Bookies were confident they’d win again, although odds were shortened on Claudia Winkleman causing an upset. However, it ended up being the outsider of the five nominees- Gary Lineker – who caused a huge upset by defeating an absent Ant and Dec, who weren’t here due to filming the new I’m a Celebrity All Stars series in South Africa.
